How to maintain your connected ski goggles

You have just invested in an APEX Vision Ultra™ goggle. Congratulations! You don't just own glasses, but a true onboard computer.

Just like your iPhone or drone, cutting-edge technology requires special care. A dirty 4K camera sensor or an improperly stored battery can ruin your experience.

Here are the 5 golden rules to maximize the lifespan of your equipment and guarantee optimal performance, season after season.

1. The Screen and Optics: The "Zero Friction" Rule

This is the number 1 mistake skiers make. The outer lens of your APEX Vision is treated against scratches, but the inner lens (face side) is impregnated with a very sensitive microscopic anti-fog treatment.

What you should NEVER do:

  • Wipe the inside of the mask with your glove (it's like sandpaper for the screen).

  • Use a tissue or paper towel (wood fibers scratch plastic).

  • Rub when the mask is wet.

The right method:

  1. Shake: Remove most of the snow by shaking the mask.

  2. Dab: Use only the microfiber bag provided with your APEX Vision. Do not rub, gently dab away the moisture.

  3. Let it dry: If possible, let the mask air dry (away from a radiator!) before putting it back on.

Pro Tip: For the 4K camera lens, use a small camera lens cleaning pen (Lens Pen) to remove fingerprints without leaving grease.

2. The Battery: Mastering Cold and Storage

The Lithium-Polymer (Li-Po) batteries in your glasses are optimized for extreme cold (-30°C), but they need good reflexes to last for years.

During the season:

  • Never charge your glasses while they are freezing. Let them return to room temperature (inside the cabin) for 30 minutes before plugging in the USB-C cable.

  • Do not let the battery drain completely (0%) too often.

During the summer (Off-season storage): This is where it all happens. Never store your mask with the battery completely empty or fully charged for 6 months.

  • The 60% rule: Store your glasses with approximately 50-60% battery. This is the ideal voltage level to prevent battery chemistry from degrading while inactive.

3. Electronics: Water and Connectors

Although APEX Vision masks are IP54 certified (splash and snow resistant), they are not designed for scuba diving.

After a wet day (melted snow/rain):

  • Check the USB-C port. Make sure there is no compacted snow inside.

  • If moisture has entered, do not use a hairdryer (the heat can loosen the seals). Allow it to air dry, with the port open, in a dry room.

4. Foams and Comfort

Triple-density foams are in direct contact with your skin and absorb perspiration. Over time, the salt in sweat can harden them.

Gentle cleaning: Do not immerse the entire mask in water (due to the electronics). Use a damp cloth with a little mild soap to dab the foam. Rinse with another damp cloth (clean water) and allow to dry away from direct heat.

5. Transport: Never without its "Shell"

Wearing your mask on your forehead at the après-ski bar? That's the style. Throwing your mask haphazardly in the trunk of your car? That's a disaster.

Your mask has electronic components and precision optics.

  • Always use the APEX HardCase (supplied) for transport.

  • Avoid leaving the mask on the car dashboard in direct sunlight. The greenhouse effect can raise the temperature to 70°C, which is lethal to the battery and can deform the lenses.

In summary: The 3 Commandments

  1. You will use microfiber (never paper).

  2. You will recharge at room temperature (never cold).

  3. You will store it in its case (never loose).

By following these few tips, your APEX Vision Ultra will remain as efficient as the first day, ready to capture your best lines, year after year.

Take care of your equipment, and it will take care of your memories.
